Born in Greenfield, MA, Ethan Aaron Rice has been indulging his creative and artistic tendencies since childhood, fostered from life in both rural western Massachusetts and the suburban landscapes of New Jersey. What began as constant childhood doodles evolved into a deeper interest in the principles of art and the beginning of a lifelong passion. 

Ethan graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon highschool in 2001 where he began his studies in art.  He then earned a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art with minors in both Art History and English at the University of Vermont. During his undergraduate years, Ethan also studied abroad in Cortona, Italy at the Lamar Dodd School of Art with the University of Georgia where he was introduced to intaglio printmaking.  His interest in printmaking led him back to Italy to further his education at Il Bisonte Institute of Printmaking in Florence, Italy.  He graduated at the top of his class with a professional printmaking degree in 2007.  

Ethan's art has been shown in many international and national shows. He continues to exhibit and enter competitions near and far to connect with more artists.  

Presently, Ethan lives in Santa Monica, California where he teaches printmaking classes at the Irvine Fine Arts Center.  

David Avery continues to exploit the constraints inherent in traditional black and white line etching in his studio in San Francisco for his own suspect purposes. His work is included in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Fogg Museum at Harvard University, the New York Public Library, the Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts, the Stanford University Library among others, and has been noted in the New York Times. Originally trained as a classical musician, he discovered etching almost by accident in a class at the local community college. After learning the basic techniques, he intently pursued his own course of discovery, developing an exceptional technique and creating a remarkable body of finely wrought miniature etchings and drypoints. Even though “black and white doesn’t sell”, he has eschewed the use of color, finding the subtleties and tonalities of black and white most capable of creating the psychological mood that allows his work to be effective.
I work in various media with a particular focus on printmaking and investigate mixing materials, the use of multiples, and drawing. I love the intended marks and layers of color and textures inherent in printmaking. Like the natural structures I use as subject matter, printmaking has a method and stages that are not always recognizable to the untrained eye. For me, the process has to build on itself to create the final image.Teaching is also very important to me, and I have been involved in arts education and public programming for 15 years. I have taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Fullerton Museum Center in Orange County, and the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks. I am currently the Senior Curator of Public Engagement at the Craft & Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles.
