My journey into printmaking is informed by early work in the screen-printing industry. After graduating from the University of Oregon in Fine and Applied arts, I went to work at Bay Street Productions in Oregon as a color matcher and screen-printer for fine custom wallpapers. From there I’ve built a busy full time studio practice, making art daily. In addition to printmaking, I work in painting, ceramics, jewelry, fabric and combined techniques.The ancient tradition of the print is always at the heart of the work. Now decades into this journey, the pleasure of process and a newfound freedom with materials and techniques keeps it all moving into new territory. I make prints not as copies or reproductions at all. Silkscreen yields the jazzy and juicy layers of color, and clear shapes. Intaglio and monotype renders deep blacks of varying densities and values. Chine collé provides “moving parts” in the form of favored shapes and colors. Layering of colors, use of multiple plates, evolving plates, and marks allows the medium to “talk back” at some point. I treat printmaking as an open ended and ongoing investigation into a hidden world.Most recently I have established screen-printing courses at the Schack Art Center in Everett, Washington, and at the Kirkland Arts Center in Kirkland, Washington. In 2014 I taught a reduction screen-print workshop in Venice, Italy at the Scuola di Grafica. I worked in 2015 at the Skopelos Foundation in Greece. I am an active member of Print Arts Northwest, Seattle Print Arts, and Los Angeles Printmakers Society. Many of the hand-printed silkscreen prints are placed in national and international collections. At present my studios in Kirkland Washington, and in Downtown Los Angeles are open by appointment.While all this history is of value, real life is lived in the joy of process, in a world of visual wonder. My mission is to continue to share it, and to live it fully every day.
In order to make a print I will work from my sketches I made of ordinary people in a variety of circumstances as well as drawings from a model or some experience in my life. My prints are about feelings and states of mood, about dreams and expectations. Often I express them through the female figure. I play a roleof narrator and storyteller but I encourage the viewer to approach the piece with his or her unique experience or memory. I enjoy working with relief and intaglio technique as well as monotype. Frequently I like to combine multiple styles and methods to create my own style. Lately I have explored the art of handmade artists’ books as a flexible medium with a wide range of artistic expression and a creative way how to utilize my prints.

Gráfica América presents works by artists representing print shops, publishing houses, and artist collectives from throughout the United States, México, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The exhibition celebrates the collaborative spirit of printmaking through historical prints and publications as well as contemporary traditional and experimental works made in collective studios and workshops established by Latin American and Latinx printmakers.
Gráfica América, is organized by the Museum of Latin American Art and is curated by Gabriela Martínez, MOLAA Curator of Education and Rogelio Gutiérrez, Professor of Printmaking at Arizona State University - School of Art.

Self Help Graphics & Art is proud to host our bi-annual Printmaking Summit April 18-20, 2019 with demonstrations, workshops, panel discussions and artist talks focused on the role printmaking in today’s creative economy for students, emerging artists and skilled national printmakers. Admission to the summit is $25.00 (3-day pass) or $15.00 for students with a valid I.D. (3-day pass).
Participants of this three-day networking and skill-building event will learn about new technologies and green practices in printmaking, participate in demonstrations led by artists and an art exchange program, portfolio reviews, meet art supply vendors, among other activities. The Printmaking Summit’s mission is to build bridges among master printers, emerging and seasoned artists, as well as aspiring youth toward a solid foundation in printmaking.
The Printmaking Summit will conclude on Saturday, April 20, 2019 with an opening reception of Utopia/ Dystopia, a portfolio of fine art prints created in the form of a deck of 52 playing cards. Curated by Artist and Printmaker, Miyo Stevens-Gandara, twenty-six artists were invited to create two cards for the deck to create their interpretation of utopia and dystopia. The deck of cards allows the project to bring many different artists and styles together creating one unified artwork- a full deck, redefining a traditional portfolio. The concept of a deck of cards is intended to reference many things- games of chance, luck, fortune, war, solitude, precarious situations (house of cards), magic, empire, and divination. It serves as a container for many ideas, and each artist has chosen their own direction.
